In a Republican-led investigation, it was determined that then-President Donald Trump “incorrectly received” nearly 2,500 extra votes in Virginia during the 2020 presidential election.
Concurrently, candidate Joe Biden was reported to be “shorted” over 1,600 votes.
This revelation comes amid Trump’s persistent claims that the 2020 election was “stolen” from him.
The GOP-led Election Integrity Unit initiated the investigation, revealing discrepancies in the 2020 election results in Prince William County, Virginia.
Trump received around 2,327 extra votes, while Biden was “shorted” 1,648 votes in the county.
The Prince William County Office of Elections acknowledged reporting errors, attributing them to a lack of proper planning, a challenging election environment, and human error.
The investigation also identified discrepancies in the county’s House and Senate races.
Notably, Senate candidates Mark Warner (D) and Daniel Gade (R) received too few votes, and House of Representatives candidate Rob Wittman (R) was shorted votes.
Despite these issues, Biden had already won Virginia by more than 450,000 votes before the discrepancies were discovered.
The GOP group’s investigation highlighted negligible differences or no discrepancies in other contests, according to the PWC Office of Elections.
Trump’s claim of voter fraud in the 2020 election faces scrutiny, particularly as he contends with indictments in Georgia and Washington, D.C., along with allies facing felony counts related to alleged efforts to overturn election results.
Trump, asserting the need to investigate voter fraud, insisted on finding “tremendous amounts of voter fraud in the 2020 election” just last week.
