A Tesla employee, Justin M. McCauley, 31, from the Twin Cities, was arrested near Tesla’s headquarters in Austin, Texas, on charges of threatening to kill Elon Musk and President Joe Biden.
McCauley, an engineering technician, faces third-degree terroristic threats charges and was booked into Travis County jail on Jan. 28 with a $20,000 bail.
The threats were posted on X, a social media site owned by Musk, prompting law enforcement action.
McCauley’s wife reported he planned to go to Texas indefinitely, leaving his cellphone to avoid tracking.
During a traffic stop, he expressed a desire to speak with the president and claimed knowledge of a secret entrance to Tesla’s Gigafactory.
McCauley’s criminal history includes convictions for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in Minnesota and Ohio, respectively.
