A woman in a trench coat entered Joel Osteen’s Houston megachurch and began shooting on a Sunday afternoon.
Two off-duty officers working security responded, killing the assailant.
A young child accompanying the woman was critically injured, and another man nearby was wounded.
The incident occurred between services at the megachurch, which regularly hosts 45,000 attendees weekly, making it the third-largest in the U.S.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott expressed condolences, stating, “Our hearts are with those impacted.”
Osteen acknowledged the potential for greater tragedy had the incident occurred during the larger 11 a.m. service.
