Former Brazilian football star Robinho, aged 40, has been apprehended to commence a nine-year jail term for his involvement in a 2013 gang rape case in Milan, Italy.
Convicted two years ago, Robinho was arrested in his hometown of Santos following Italy’s unsuccessful extradition attempt.
Brazil’s court upheld the decision for him to serve his sentence in prison rather than under house arrest.
Despite a plea to halt his detention, a Supreme Court judge dismissed the request, earning praise from local media for ensuring justice despite Robinho’s fame and wealth.
