State patrol spokesperson Sarah Stewart stated that troopers shut down the highway around 1:25 p.m.
upon receiving notification of the incident, rerouting traffic accordingly.
The affected bridge, spanning the Arkansas River at the Robert S. Kerr Reservoir entry point, will remain inaccessible until a thorough inspection is conducted.
Stewart confirmed that there were no reported injuries either on the highway or involving the barge.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, engineers endeavored to remove a twisted steel segment from the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland, which buckled into the Patapsco River subsequent to a colossal cargo ship striking one of its primary supports.
