The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced that Wednesday, April 10, will be celebrated as Eid-Fitri in Nigeria.
This decision was made after National Moon Sighting Committees across the country reported no sighting of the new moon.
According to a statement by Prof Sambo Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, the council accepted the moon sighting report, officially declaring Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH.
His Eminence, the Sultan, extends felicitations to the Nigerian Muslim community and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings.
He urges Muslims to continue praying for peace, progress, and development in the country, and extends heartfelt Eid-El-Fitri greetings to all Muslims.
The Sultan also serves as the President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
In Saudi Arabia, authorities reported that the crescent of Shawwal was not sighted, indicating that fasting will continue on Tuesday.
This suggests that Eid-El-Fitr will be observed on Wednesday, April 10, marking the start of the new Islamic month.
