Nigerian celebrity cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been placed in the male section of a Nigerian Correctional Service facility after openly confirming in court that he is biologically male.
Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison without the option of bail by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday for charges related to financial mismanagement.
A spokesperson for the correctional service in Lagos commented on the situation:
“Since he openly declared his gender as male in court, we are bound by that statement.”
To address concerns regarding Bobrisky’s safety while in custody, correctional officers have assured that sufficient measures have been implemented to protect him from potential abuse by other inmates.
“The risk of assault from male inmates is not a concern as our staff will ensure his safety,” the spokesperson emphasized.
Bobrisky’s court appearance is linked to charges involving Naira abuse and money laundering, with a guilty plea made specifically to the Naira abuse charge during last week’s proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has provided the following information to Nigerians regarding Naira abuse:
