A nurse in Pennsylvania has been sentenced to 760 years in prison for injecting lethal or potentially fatal doses of insulin into patients.
Heather Pressdee, 41, received three consecutive life terms plus additional consecutive sentences ranging from 380 to 760 years.
She was implicated in the deaths of at least 17 individuals across five healthcare facilities in four counties between 2020 and 2023.
Colleagues had raised concerns about her behavior, noting her disregard for patients and making disparaging remarks about them.
Pressdee pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder and 19 counts of attempted murder, initially facing charges for two murders and causing harm to another.
The plea hearing revealed her desire to plead guilty, stating simply, “Because I am guilty.”
During the court proceedings, victims’ family members described Pressdee as arrogantly playing God and expressed their anger towards her.
Pressdee, who administered excessive insulin doses on night shifts, leading to patient deaths, remained emotionless during the hearing despite intense reactions from the courtroom.
Prosecutors revealed that Pressdee had a history of abusive behavior towards patients and staff at various facilities, resulting in termination or resignation from her jobs.
Similar cases of healthcare workers causing harm to patients have been reported, including a Texas nurse sentenced to death for injecting air into patients’ arteries after heart surgeries and another nurse in New Jersey and Pennsylvania suspected of killing many patients.
