Kevin Bui, 20, has agreed to serve 60 years in prison for his role in setting fire to a Denver home, resulting in the deaths of five family members on August 5, 2020.
Bui pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Djibril “Jibby” Diol, his 23-year-old wife Adja, their 21-month-old daughter Khadija, Diol’s sister Hassan, and her 6-month-old daughter Hawa Beye.
Bui, along with two accomplices, Gavin Seymour and Dillon Siebert, were involved in the arson attack, believing that an iPhone stolen from Bui was in the house.
They planned the attack meticulously, purchasing masks and gasoline before breaking into the home and setting it ablaze.
The victims were trapped inside, and three survivors had to jump from the second-floor window to escape.
As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Bui will serve a 60-year sentence in exchange for the state dropping an additional 60 criminal charges.
Seymour and Siebert, who were also involved in the crime, have previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
Bui is scheduled to be formally sentenced on June 2, 2024.
