Zimbabwe has started producing e-passports for its citizens residing in South Africa.
A newly renovated building will open after the South African elections.
This initiative follows President Mnangagwa’s directive to make e-passports available to all Zimbabweans, regardless of their location.
Officials from Zimbabwe’s Registrar General’s office are in South Africa to train consulate staff on e-passport processing.
Ambassador Raphael Faranisi, the Permanent Secretary of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, confirmed the ongoing issuance and training.
The office will be officially opened after the South African elections, with Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs ministers and a South African official present at the commissioning.
The government plans to establish five more e-passport offices abroad, including in the UK, UAE, and the USA.
This is part of a broader effort to make services more accessible globally.
Several e-passport centers have already been set up within Zimbabwe.
