Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City who attempted to overturn Donald Trump’s election defeat, was disbarred in New York on Tuesday.

This is another consequence for those who propagated false claims of widespread voter fraud following Joe Biden’s 2020 win.

Facing charges in Georgia and Arizona, and named as an unindicted co-conspirator in a federal case against Trump by special counsel Jack Smith, Giuliani had no legitimate reason to believe the election fraud claims he spread, according to Tuesday’s order.

A New York appeals court highlighted false statements Giuliani made at a press conference at Four Seasons Total Landscaping, which occurred as some media outlets called the election for Biden.

The appeals court noted these statements were intended to support the false narrative that widespread voter fraud had stolen the 2020 election from Trump’s campaign.

Giuliani has faced more severe repercussions than Trump for his role in attempting to overturn the election results. He also risks disbarment in Washington, D.C., where a bar committee has recommended his disbarment.

In May, WABC radio suspended Giuliani and canceled his show for continuing to make false statements about the 2020 election, which could have exposed the station to legal risk.

Additionally, a jury awarded $148 million to Georgia poll workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss after Giuliani falsely accused them of election fraud, leading to racist threats against them.

During the New York disciplinary case, Giuliani admitted there were not thousands of votes cast by dead people in Philadelphia, contrary to his earlier claims.

The disciplinary referee found Giuliani committed 16 deliberate falsehoods as part of a clear pattern of deceit.
