At least 20 people were killed in a large-scale missile strike by Russia on several cities across Ukraine on Monday, officials confirmed.
In Kyiv, a daytime attack resulted in the deaths of at least seven people and targeted a children’s hospital, which is now undergoing evacuation.
Kryvyi Rih reported at least 10 fatalities, while three more people were killed in Pokrovsk.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia launched approximately 40 missiles at various locations across the country, causing damage to residential buildings, infrastructure, and the children’s hospital.
Cities affected included Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Sloviansk, and Kramatorsk.
“Russia must be aware of where its missiles are directed and must be held fully accountable for all its atrocities: against people, children, and humanity in general,” President Zelensky emphasized in a post on Telegram.
Oleksandr Vilkul, head of Kryvyi Rih’s military administration, reported at least 10 deaths and 31 injuries in the city, with 10 people in critical condition.
Videos on social media showed extensive damage at the Okhmadyt children’s hospital in Kyiv, although it’s unclear if anyone inside was harmed.
Plumes of smoke were visible across Kyiv, underscoring the extensive impact of the attack.
Russia’s most significant missile strikes on Ukraine in recent months occurred just ahead of a major NATO summit in Washington.
