Explosives were discovered in the car of Thomas Matthew Crooks, who attempted to assassinate former President Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, as reported by multiple sources.
Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was identified by the FBI as the individual who shot Trump and several rally attendees in Butler, Pennsylvania.
His car, parked near the rally, prompted police to call in bomb technicians due to reports of suspicious packages, first reported by the Wall Street Journal. This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” the FBI stated.
According to reports, explosives were also found at Crooks’s home.
A Secret Service sniper fatally shot Crooks at the scene after he fired multiple rounds into the crowd. The AR-style rifle used by Crooks was purchased by his father, according to reports.
House Republicans have pledged to thoroughly investigate the shooting, focusing on the Secret Service’s failure to secure the rooftop from which Crooks fired.
Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that the FBI, ATF, and other law enforcement agencies would investigate the incident, with the FBI taking the lead.
Trump sustained an injury when a bullet grazed his right ear, causing him to fall as blood covered his face. With assistance from Secret Service agents, Trump quickly stood up, raised a fist to the crowd, and chanted “fight!”
His actions have since become a symbol of his resilience.
