Elon Musk announced on Monday that Tesla plans to launch humanoid robots for internal use by next year, with a goal to make them available to other companies by 2026.
This update follows Musk’s previous statement in April about the Tesla robot, Optimus, beginning to perform tasks in the factory by the end of 2024 and potentially being available for commercial use by late 2025.
Tesla recently released a video showing the second-generation robot efficiently folding a T-shirt.
Companies like Honda and Hyundai Motor’s Boston Dynamics have also been working on humanoid robots, which are intended to address labor shortages and handle repetitive, hazardous, or monotonous tasks in sectors such as logistics, warehousing, and manufacturing.
