Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki has inaugurated the second phase of the Christian Feeding Programme (CFP), which will distribute 56,250 kilograms of rice across the state’s three senatorial districts.
The initiative is spearheaded by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), and other local Christian organizations.
During a warehouse inspection in Benin City, Apostle Irekpono Omoike, the CAN chairman, outlined the distribution plan: Edo South will receive 21,875 bags, Edo Central 15,625 bags, and Edo North 18,750 bags. The governor launched the distribution in Edo South.
Obaseki noted that the program’s first phase began about three months ago to alleviate hardship and praised the Christian leaders for their commitment, emphasizing that the program is non-political and managed independently by the Church.
He urged the Federal Government to emulate Edo State’s approach, highlighting the success of the CFP, which has benefited over 50,000 families.
Obaseki criticized the federal government for its lack of effective support, advocating for greater transparency and honesty in governance.
The governor announced that the third phase of the program will include additional support initiatives like conditional cash transfers, skills training, and microfinance.
CAN’s chairman thanked the governor for his efforts to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal on the public and described the CFP as a key part of the governor’s broader relief efforts.
