Since Saturday night, over 140 people have been arrested in the UK amid widespread rioting and violence.
Demonstrators clashed with police, setting cars on fire, throwing bottles, shouting anti-immigration slogans, and confronting anti-racism protesters.
On Sunday, rioters targeted a South Yorkshire hotel used to house asylum seekers. The unrest followed the fatal stabbing of three young girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport, England.
The protests, driven by far-right groups, were fueled by misinformation about the suspect, Axel Rudakubana. False online claims suggesting Rudakubana was Muslim led to attacks on mosques. Rudakubana, born in Cardiff to Rwandan parents, was involved in his local church.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the violence as “far-right thuggery,” warning that participants will face legal consequences.
The disturbances have affected cities including London, Manchester, Belfast, and Bristol.
