Peter Okoye, one-half of the famous Nigerian music duo P-Square, has finally spoken out about the group’s split and the ongoing tensions with his twin brother, Paul Okoye.
Peter expressed his frustration, stating, “I’m tired of being disrespected and belittled by my own brother. While I’ve always referred to P-Square as a joint effort using ‘we’ and ‘us,’ Paul tends to use ‘I’ and ‘me,’ minimizing my contributions as if I never existed.”
He addressed the continual disregard for his contributions to the group, highlighting that he has written and co-written many of their hit songs, including “Get-Squared,” “Bizzy Body,” “Personally,” “Roll It,” “Temptation,” and others. “Are these songs also considered failures?” Peter questioned, adding that Paul’s focus on his own contributions while downplaying others is unfair.
Peter also questioned Paul’s motives for belittling him, noting, “I’ve praised him for his songwriting abilities in interviews, yet he seems to take satisfaction in belittling me. What does he gain by constantly disrespecting and belittling me?”
Reflecting on their solo careers, Peter asked whether their individual successes as Rudeboy or Mr. P have matched the level of success P-Square enjoyed. “Are we selling out arenas and topping world music charts like P-Square used to? Do we still command and entertain massive audiences as solo artists?”
Peter expressed his frustration over Paul’s repeated claims of being the sole songwriter, composer, producer, and singer of P-Square, saying, “It’s as if I’m not part of the group. I’ve been disrespected, marginalized, and humiliated. You’ve disrespected my wife, my family, my talent, and my ideas, even siding with Jude when he was clearly trying to oppress me.”
He concluded by wishing Paul well, saying, “I genuinely wish him nothing but the best. I just want to focus on my music in peace. Please allow me to do so. I know some people believe the lies and false narratives and come to my page with negative comments, but I wish them the best as well.”
