MrBeast, YouTube sensation, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, is the platform’s most-subscribed creator with 308 million subscribers on his main channel and nearly 460 million across all five of his channels.
His popularity led to an estimated $82 million earnings between June 2022 and June 2023, as reported by Forbes.
Since starting on YouTube in 2012, Donaldson has gained fame for his high-stakes challenge videos and philanthropic efforts, such as funding cataract surgeries for 1,000 people and volunteering in underserved areas.
However, his fame has also attracted scrutiny. Critics argue that his method of giving away cash in exchange for challenging feats raises ethical concerns and that his philanthropic acts are used primarily as content.
Recently, Donaldson and his team have faced several controversies. These include accusations against his former collaborator Ava Kris Tyson for inappropriate interactions with minors and sexual assault, which Tyson denies.
Additionally, former contestants on his Amazon competition show, “Beast Games,” have claimed unsafe conditions during filming, leading to multiple injuries and alleged poor treatment.
In response, Donaldson’s representatives have announced an investigation into the allegations against Tyson and are implementing new policies, including hiring a chief HR officer and conducting company-wide sensitivity training. The production for “Beast Games” faced issues, including extreme weather and logistical problems, and upcoming filming is expected to continue in Toronto.
Moreover, in July, past videos of MrBeast making racially insensitive jokes resurfaced, prompting an apology from him. He has acknowledged his past mistakes and committed to being more responsible with his influence and language.
