The gospel music world is grieving the loss of Aduke Ajayi, known professionally as Aduke Gold, who has tragically passed away. The news was announced on Tuesday by gospel artist Esther Igbeke via social media, who shared a tribute with a photo of Aduke Gold and the message: “A general has fallen. RIP.”
Aduke Gold’s death follows the recent passing of another notable gospel singer, Egbin Orun, who died on April 28, 2024. Esther Igbekele had confirmed Orun’s death in an Instagram post.
Despite the competitive gospel music scene, Aduke Gold made a significant impact with her uplifting songs and growing popularity. Her breakthrough track, “Nitori 0go” (or ‘Because of Glory’), from her acclaimed eight-track album, received widespread acclaim on social media.
Aduke Gold often shared her inspiring journey on Instagram, detailing her early struggles, including selling slippers, yam, and fried fish, and facing hardships such as cooking with firewood when kerosene was scarce. She also spoke of her childhood challenges, including being orphaned at four and dealing with severe vertigo.
In addition to her musical success, Aduke Gold had notable academic achievements. She earned a degree in History and International Relations from Lagos State University through a scholarship from Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, the then Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Lagos State. Her qualifications also included a higher degree in Child Psychology, a UK Diploma in Montessori Education, and various certifications in Special Education, Aquaculture, Cake Making, Cookery and Decoration, Music Rudiments, Business, and Piano.
She was deeply committed to supporting children with special needs, including those with autism, cerebral palsy, and dyslexia.
