Both are being charged for the deaths of two teachers and two students.
On Friday, new concerns emerged about whether school officials were alerted to an investigation involving the teenager last year.
A father and son, arrested after Georgia’s deadliest school shooting, appeared in court separately but within 30 minutes of each other. They sat together at the defense table as the serious charges against them were read.
The father, visibly shaken, rocked in his chair during his short court appearance. Family members of the victims filled the first and second rows of the courtroom, some quietly wiping tears.
The 14-year-old, a freshman at Apalachee High School, is accused of killing two students and two teachers on Wednesday. He faces four felony murder charges and could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted.
His father, Colin Gray, 54, is charged with murder and manslaughter. He’s accused of giving his son access to the military-style rifle used in the shooting, despite knowing his son was a danger to himself and others, according to arrest records.
The weapon, an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, was a Christmas gift from the father to his son, Colt Gray, in 2023, according to law enforcement sources.
Both father and son had public defenders, did not enter pleas, and did not request bail.
Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for December 4.
