In an interview with GQ magazine, Beyoncé explained that she intentionally avoided releasing music videos for tracks from her last two albums, “Renaissance” (2022) and “Cowboy Carter” (2024), to keep the focus on her voice and the music itself.
Despite fans urging her to release visuals for “Renaissance,” she chose not to, believing that the music needed space to be appreciated on its own.
Beyoncé stated, “In a time when visuals are everywhere, I wanted people to concentrate on the voice. The music is rich in history and instrumentation, requiring time to fully absorb and understand. I felt it was important for the music to stand alone.”
She also noted that visuals could sometimes distract from the quality of the music and voice, emphasizing the extensive effort put into an album that takes over four years to complete. According to her, fans experienced the visuals through her tour and the film adaptation.
The Renaissance World Tour, which began in May 2023 and concluded in October, was recorded for the film “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” released in theaters last December. She has not yet announced a tour for “Cowboy Carter.”
In the same interview, Beyoncé shared which artists and films currently inspire her, including Raye, Victoria Monét, Sasha Keable, Chloe x Halle, Reneé Rapp, Doechii, GloRilla, That Mexican OT, Sabrina Carpenter, Thee Sacred Souls, and Chappell Roan.
She also mentioned her love for classic artists like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, praised the documentary she recently watched, and named “Inside Out 2” as her favorite film of the year. She’s also currently watching “House of the Dragon” and “The Chi.”
