The FBI is investigating what it has labeled an “attempted assassination” of former President Donald Trump.
Authorities have identified 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh from Hawaii as the suspect, with the incident which occurred on Sunday, September 15.
Routh allegedly aimed an AK-47 assault rifle at Trump while he was golfing in Florida. At the scene, law enforcement found two backpacks containing a GoPro camera and ceramic tiles.
The FBI is thoroughly investigating Routh’s background, examining his social media activity, travel history, and any potential criminal record. Investigators are also interviewing his friends, family, and associates.
Sources suggest that Routh may have been motivated by frustrations related to Trump’s stance on Ukraine.
He is believed to have connections to North Carolina and Hawaii, having relocated to Hawaii around 2018.
Authorities are expected to file charges soon, according to reports.
