Yelloh, previously known as Schwan’s Home Delivery, announced it will shut down operations in November 2024 due to economic difficulties and shifting consumer habits.
Founded in 1952, the company was a pioneer in frozen food delivery and operated the largest fleet of freezer trucks in the United States. The last day to place orders will be November 8, 2024, as the company begins its closure process over the next two months.
After over 70 years in the business, the Minnesota-based frozen food delivery service will permanently close.
In a recent announcement, Yelloh cited economic challenges and changing consumer preferences as primary reasons for its decision.
Schwan’s Company, which remains operational selling products through grocery stores and food service outlets, originally began as Schwan’s Home Delivery before rebranding to Yelloh in 2022.
In 2018, Schwan’s Company was sold to a South Korean firm for $1.8 billion, but the delivery division remained separate.
In a statement, CEO Bernardo Santana expressed sadness over the decision, thanking loyal customers and dedicated employees for their support.
Board Member Michael Ziebell noted the company faced significant challenges, including staffing shortages and supply chain disruptions caused by the pandemic, alongside evolving consumer behaviors and increasing competition that made it hard to succeed.
He highlighted that digital shopping has taken the place of the personal delivery service that was once a hallmark of Yelloh’s operations.
