Sean “Diddy” Combs has made another attempt to secure his release before his upcoming sex trafficking and racketeering trial.
On Monday, his lawyers filed an appeal with the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, challenging Judge Andrew Carter’s decision to keep Combs detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
In the filing, his new attorneys, Anthony Ricco and Alexandra Shapiro, offered several conditions for Combs’ release, including banning women from his home (except for his mother and the mothers of his children), weekly drug testing, and a promise to avoid contact with any witnesses or “co-conspirators.” This appeal follows two prior unsuccessful bids for bail.
Combs’ legal team had previously proposed a $50 million bail package, which included surrendering his passport and being placed under 24-hour surveillance, but the judge denied it, citing concerns that Combs is a flight risk and poses a danger to the community.
Over the past year, Combs has faced multiple civil lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct, and in March, federal agents raided his homes in Los Angeles and Miami. Last month, he was formally charged with sex trafficking, racketeering, and other crimes following an indictment by a federal grand jury in New York.
The indictment accuses Combs and his associates of threatening and coercing women to satisfy his sexual demands, including forcing them to participate in filmed sexual acts known as “freak offs.” Combs has pleaded not guilty.
His lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, stated in a TMZ documentary that Combs remains positive and focused on his defense, and is eager to testify at his upcoming trial.
The next hearing is set for October 9.
