Tech billionaire Elon Musk’s political action committee is offering a starting wage of $30 an hour for individuals interested in enhancing voter registration and turnout, as indicated on the PAC’s website.
“JOIN OUR TEAM,” states the America PAC, which Musk founded. “Contact us if you want to help increase voter registration and turnout. Pay begins at $30 per hour, with performance bonuses available.”
Earlier this summer, Musk endorsed former President Trump, who is campaigning to regain the presidency. Musk appeared alongside Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, where the former president made a notable return following an assassination attempt during a rally on July 13 that left him injured.
Musk emphasized the significance of the upcoming election, stating, “I think it’s the most important election of our lifetime. This is no ordinary election. The other side wants to take away your freedom of speech. They want to take away your right to bear arms… They want to take away your right to vote effectively.” He urged attendees to motivate everyone in their circles to register and vote on Election Day, saying, “And honestly, you want to just be a pest. Just be a pest to everyone. You know, people on the street everywhere.”
He echoed Trump’s rallying cry of “fight, fight, fight, vote, vote, vote,” referencing Trump’s resilience after being shot in July.
Musk’s comments align with the mission of America PAC, which aims to promote “free speech, free markets, and a merit-based society.” The PAC’s website, launched last month, seeks to enhance canvassing efforts in crucial battleground states such as Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina, as well as in competitive districts nationwide.
Established earlier this summer, the America PAC has reportedly invested at least $2.4 million in over a dozen important congressional races, with Musk indicating plans to contribute around $45 million monthly to the PAC.
Social media users noted the high hourly wage for canvassing through the America PAC, which exceeds the federal minimum wage of $7.25 by over 300%.
America PAC has collaborated with Turning Point Action in Wisconsin to strengthen the Republican Party’s ground game for voter turnout. Andrew Kolvet, a spokesperson for Turning Point, stated, “We’ve always known bodies in the field equals ballots in the box. This partnership will significantly enhance our efforts to ensure our ballot chasers maximize their impact in Wisconsin.”
Musk, who identifies as a “historically moderate Democrat,” hosted a two-hour streamed discussion with Trump in August, where they addressed issues like immigration, inflation, the assassination attempt, and potential policies if Trump wins on November 5.
