Harvey Weinstein, the 72-year-old former movie producer and convicted rapist, has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, a rare bone marrow cancer, according to reports.
He has been receiving medical treatment while imprisoned at Rikers Island, where he is serving time for rape.
Weinstein’s health has severely declined, and he has been hospitalized multiple times this year for various issues, including COVID-19, pneumonia, and heart problems. He was most recently rushed to Bellevue Hospital due to severe medical conditions, leading his lawyer, Arthur Aidala, to warn officials that Weinstein’s life is at risk without proper intervention.
Weinstein, who denies the rape and sexual assault accusations, remains in custody in New York as he awaits a retrial set for November 12.
His 2020 convictions were overturned earlier this year, prompting a new trial.
Since then, Weinstein has frequently been in and out of the hospital for various health issues, including chest pains and a surgery in September.
His medical problems also include diabetes, coronary artery disease, hypertension, and other conditions, and he now relies on a wheelchair during court appearances.
