Legendary musician Sir Elton John has shared that he’s spending his final days enjoying small bites of apples and a “bit of melon.” However, he has also made it clear that he would indulge in a feast of sweets before passing, as he can no longer enjoy them due to his diabetes. He confessed that if given a “death row meal,” it would only consist of sugary treats like ice cream, donuts, and pies.
The 77-year-old singer, who has battled health issues over the years, including knee and hip replacements, prostate cancer surgery, and limited vision from a severe eye infection, has taken significant steps to manage his blood sugar. He mentioned it’s been a long time since he enjoyed his favorite sweets, adding that while he can have small amounts of fruit like apple and melon, he craves chocolate and ice cream, which he must avoid to manage his diabetes.
In a recent Instagram post, John opened up about his ongoing eye condition, which has left him with limited vision in one eye and requires a slow healing process. He also reflected on his health journey, admitting that at 77, he feels like there isn’t much left of his body. “I’ve had tonsils, adenoids, and my appendix removed, and I don’t have a prostate or knee joints anymore,” he said. Despite his health struggles, he remains focused on living fully and cherishing his family, especially his husband David Furnish and their two sons, Zachary and Elijah.
He also explained his decision to retire from touring, stating that after decades of performing, he’s ready to focus on family and other creative projects. “I still have music in my life, but the most important things now are my family and friends. I’ve found my utopia and I’m so happy,” he shared.
