On Sunday, Russia launched a massive missile and drone strike on Ukraine, described by officials as the largest in recent months, aiming at energy infrastructure and causing civilian casualties.
In the northern city of Sumy, a Russian missile hit a nine-story building, killing eight people and injuring many others. Among the victims were two children.
Sumy is located about 40 kilometers from the Russian border.
Over 400 people were evacuated from the building, with rescue teams searching for survivors in the damaged structure.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko called each death a tragedy.
The attack, targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, has raised concerns that Russia is aiming to cripple the country’s power supply ahead of winter.
