Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has confirmed that his client, musician Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or AKPI, was arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri, Imo State.
Adeyanju shared the news on his official Facebook page, stating that Darlington was detained during his return to Nigeria for a performance. The exact reasons for his arrest remain unclear.
According to reports, Speed Darlington’s arrest may be linked to allegations of cyberstalking fellow musician Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu.
Darlington was initially detained at the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team facility in Abuja after being arrested in Lagos.
Adeyanju, who visited Darlington, confirmed that a petition had been filed against him by Burna Boy.
Darlington was reportedly moved through multiple police stations in Lagos before being taken into custody in Abuja by the IRT team.
