An online fundraiser to assist Luigi Mangione with his legal expenses has raised over $10,000. The GiveSendGo campaign, created by the December 4th Legal Committee in Stone Harbor, New Jersey, initially set a goal of $50,000 to support Mangione, who is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. As of Tuesday, the fundraising target has increased to $200,000.
More than 380 donors have contributed a total of $10,567, with comments reflecting strong support for Mangione. One anonymous donor wrote, “Thank you for your service, sir. I hope this is only the beginning,” while another simply said, “Thank you.” Some donors expressed their belief in Mangione’s innocence, with one stating, “Luigi poses no danger to society, except to those greedy executives,” and urging the governors of New York and Pennsylvania to pardon him.
At the start of Monday, the fundraiser had raised just over $800 from 52 donors. Some contributors expressed their views on Mangione’s case, with one donor writing, “This young hero deserves a fair trial,” while another referenced the phrase “Delay, Deny, Depose,” which was found on the bullets used to kill Thompson. Authorities are investigating potential links to insurance company motives.
Mangione, 26, is currently in custody at Blair County Prison in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, awaiting extradition to New York. A hearing for his extradition is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
Organizers of the fundraiser have also announced that they have obtained a mailing address for Mangione in prison and plan to communicate directly with him regarding the use of the funds.
