Sean “Diddy” Combs successfully petitioned the court for permission to use a laptop while in prison to assist in preparing his defense. Initially, the judge allowed restricted laptop access, permitting use only in specific rooms during limited hours. However, after complaints from Combs’ attorneys, the restrictions were loosened.
Judge Arun Subramanian ruled that Combs could use the laptop daily between 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM in designated areas, including his unit’s visiting room or video-teleconference room. Despite this adjustment, Combs is still barred from using the device to take or store notes. The laptop remains limited to reviewing preloaded legal materials.
The ruling sparked outrage online, with critics accusing the decision of giving Combs special privileges. Many commenters expressed frustration, though some appeared to misunderstand the restrictions placed on his laptop use.
