Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of a woman who was set on fire on a Brooklyn subway train.
The incident occurred at Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue Station when the woman, riding a stationary F train, was approached by a man who ignited her clothing with a lighter. The victim died at the scene, and the suspect was apprehended on another subway train after being identified by officers.
The attack took place around 7:30 AM local time, and authorities confirmed there was no prior interaction between the victim and the suspect.
As the man fled the scene, officers on patrol at the station noticed smoke and rushed to investigate, finding the woman engulfed in flames. Despite their efforts to extinguish the fire, she died on site.
The suspect remained in the area and was later spotted by three high school students who recognized him on a different subway train, prompting them to call 911. The man was subsequently arrested.
Investigators are still working to identify the victim and determine the motive for the attack.
