An Army veteran suspected of carrying out a terror attack in New Orleans, killing 15 people, had previously worked as a senior consultant at Deloitte, earning a six-figure salary, according to reports.
Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a Texas native, served in the U.S. Army for a decade before transitioning to corporate roles at Accenture and Ernst & Young, where he worked as a cloud consulting manager. In 2021, he joined Deloitte as a senior solutions specialist with an annual salary of approximately $125,000. He remained employed there until at least fall 2024.
The FBI identified Jabbar, 42, as the perpetrator behind the New Year’s Eve attack on Bourbon Street, where he drove a truck carrying explosives and an ISIS flag into a crowd, killing 15 and injuring over 30. After detonating the truck, Jabbar engaged police in a shootout and was killed.
Court records reveal Jabbar’s personal life was troubled. He faced financial struggles, including a heavily delinquent mortgage, credit card debt, and spousal support obligations. He had been disciplined twice during his military service for DUI offenses and went through two divorces, with his second wife obtaining a restraining order against him in 2020.
While his professional profile projected success, Jabbar faced growing instability in his personal life. He converted to Islam at some point and included a Quranic verse in his Deloitte profile, but his erratic behavior, described by family members, worsened in recent months.
President Joe Biden confirmed the FBI is treating the attack as an act of terrorism, citing evidence that Jabbar had shared ISIS-inspired videos online expressing a desire to kill. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities focused on understanding Jabbar’s motives and connections.
