Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have extended their support to those affected by the devastating wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are offering shelter and assistance to friends and loved ones at their Montecito estate, valued at $14 million, as over 100,000 people have been displaced by the fast-spreading Palisades and Eaton Fires.
Although their Montecito home, located 90 miles north of the affected areas, remains unharmed, Meghan and Harry have turned it into a refuge for evacuees according to sources.
Beyond providing shelter, Meghan and Harry have also been on the ground offering direct support.
On Friday, they made a surprise appearance at the Pasadena Convention Center, an evacuation hub, where they distributed food parcels to victims and first responders. The couple also connected with José Andrés, founder of World Central Kitchen, a partner of their Archewell Foundation, which is supplying meals to those in need.
Dressed casually—Meghan in a light blue shirt and cap, and Harry in a black polo and cap—the pair engaged with Pasadena’s Mayor, Victor Gord, and demonstrated their commitment to the community.
Their Archewell Foundation is working to identify effective ways to aid recovery efforts, focusing on mental health support and long-term rebuilding initiatives. In a statement titled “Southern California Fires” posted on their website, the Sussexes shared resources and ways for others to contribute.
The wildfires, which began on January 7, have caused widespread destruction in areas like Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Pasadena, and Altadena. As of January 9, the fires remain uncontained, and the full extent of the damage is still being assessed. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna emphasized the ongoing challenges faced by emergency responders during a press conference.
Through their actions, Meghan and Harry continue to demonstrate compassion and a hands-on approach in supporting those affected by this crisis.
