President Donald Trump appeared to test his limits during a Las Vegas rally on Saturday night, delivering a speech filled with bold statements. According to reports, Trump teased the crowd by hinting at serving more than two terms as president: “It will be the greatest honor of my life to serve. Not once, but twice—or three times or four times,” he said. However, he clarified that he has no current plans to extend his presidency.
He added, “Headlines for the fake news,” explaining his remark was meant as a lighthearted quip. Trump emphasized that his true honor would be serving two terms, promising, “For the next four years, I will not rest… we will win, win, win, and bring back the American dream. We’re going to make it greater than ever before.”
Trump’s comments followed Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles’ proposal of a House Joint Resolution seeking to amend the Constitution’s 22nd Amendment to allow a president—specifically Trump—to serve more than two terms. Ogles’ statement claimed Trump is “the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness.”
The proposal faced swift backlash from both Democrats and conservatives, with critics arguing against using constitutional amendments for personal ambitions. Trump’s former attorney Jenna Ellis tweeted, “Constitutional amendments are for enduring principles and process. Not for a singular moment or because you want attention from the current leader.”
