On Wednesday, President Donald Trump revealed that he had a “lengthy” conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which Putin reportedly agreed to begin negotiations immediately to end the war in Ukraine.
In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump mentioned that he and Putin talked about collaborating closely, including possible visits to each other’s countries. He also noted that he would reach out to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to inform him of the discussion.
Trump appointed key officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, to lead the negotiations.
During the conversation, Trump and Putin reflected on the historical U.S.-Russia relationship, particularly their alliance during World War II. Trump also stated that Putin referenced his campaign slogan, “Common Sense,” while discussing the urgency to end the war.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine began in February 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine. The White House has yet to release more information on the negotiation process.
