Patience Jonathan is making headlines after Gladys Achese, the sister of one of her domestic workers, spoke out about the unjust detention of her sibling and 14 others for six years over the First Lady’s missing jewelry, reportedly worth 750 million naira. Gladys shared the emotional toll her family has endured during this time.
The domestic staff have been held in detention for years, sparking widespread outrage and calls for their release. The issue was brought to the public’s attention through a social media post by PIDOM Nigeria last year, which led to a single court session. However, the defendant’s sudden withdrawal resulted in the case being indefinitely adjourned.
Gladys and her family are now appealing for Nigerians’ help in ensuring a fair trial. The prolonged delay has caused severe emotional distress and disrupted their lives. They are asking the public to amplify their call for justice, hoping for a swift resolution. Since 2019, the 15 former domestic staff of the First Lady have been held in a correctional center in Bayelsa state without facing charges or standing trial.
The names of the staff are: Golden Vivian, Erama Deborah, Precious Kingsley, Vincent Olabiyi, Ebuka Cosmos, Williams Alamo, Tamunokuro Abaku, Boma Oba, Emmanuel Aginwa, Emeka Benson, Tamunosiki Achese, Frisberesima Wariboko, Salome Sahabi Lima, Reginald Sunday, and John Dashe.
