U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that it will start monitoring immigrants’ social media for signs of antisemitic behavior, which could lead to the denial of immigration benefits.
This new policy will apply to individuals applying for permanent residence as well as those connected with educational institutions. Effective immediately, the Department of Homeland Security stated its commitment to protecting the U.S. from extremist elements, including those supporting antisemitic terrorism and groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin emphasized that the U.S. has no obligation to admit or allow those with terrorist sympathies to remain in the country.
