President Donald Trump said Tuesday he plans to introduce a self-deportation program aimed at addressing illegal immigration in the U.S.
Speaking in an interview with Fox Noticias, Trump described the initiative as a voluntary system where undocumented immigrants would receive a stipend and a plane ticket to return to their home countries.
“These are rough, bad people. We want them out,” Trump said, noting the program hadn’t been officially announced yet. He admitted that the details are still being finalized but suggested that those who leave voluntarily and are deemed “good” could be eligible to return legally in the future.
Immigration has remained a central issue for Trump, who has previously argued that deporting undocumented immigrants would create more jobs for Americans. However, experts warn that such policies could worsen demographic challenges and lead to labor shortages in sectors like agriculture and construction.
During the interview, Trump acknowledged that U.S. farmers and business owners depend heavily on immigrant labor, and he expressed support for creating legal pathways to help them hire workers. “If a farmer can give recommendations to people, we’re going to be very soothing,” he said, adding that he wants people to leave and eventually return legally.
