WWE has officially retired the Universal Championship following WrestleMania 41.
On Tuesday, fans noticed that the title’s page on WWE’s website had been updated to list it as “Retired.”
Roman Reigns is recognized as the final champion, with his historic reign ending on April 7, 2024.
Originally introduced in 2016 as the top title for Monday Night Raw after the WWE Championship became exclusive to SmackDown, the Universal Championship later moved to the blue brand when “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt defeated Seth Rollins in 2019.
Finn Balor was the inaugural champion, though he vacated the title just a day later due to injury.
Reigns, known as “The Tribal Chief,” held the title for a record-setting 1,316 days before losing it to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.
