Chris Brown has been released on $6.7 million bail just days after his arrest in connection with a 2023 assault at a London nightclub. The decision came Wednesday from British Judge Tony Baumgartner, overturning a previous ruling that ordered Brown to remain in custody until his June 13 court date.
This ruling allows the Grammy-winning artist to proceed with his upcoming world tour, including shows in Amsterdam and Germany in early June.
Brown faces a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent following the alleged February 2023 attack at Tape nightclub in London’s upscale Mayfair district. Music producer Abe Diaw claims he was hospitalized after what he described as an “unprovoked attack.”
Also charged in the case is American musician Omololu Akinlolu, known as “Hoody Baby,” a friend of Brown’s. Neither man has entered a plea, and both are due back in court on June 20. Brown’s case has been moved from Manchester Magistrates’ Court to Southwark Crown Court in London.
Prosecutors have described the charges as extremely serious, while Brown’s defense has argued he is not a flight risk.
