Britney Spears and her estranged father have settled their legal dispute more than two years after the termination of the conservatorship that had granted him control over her life. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed by their attorneys.
In a statement, Britney’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, expressed gratitude for representing and defending the pop star, emphasizing her iconic status and artistic brilliance. He noted that Britney’s freedom from court involvement is now complete, as per her wishes.
Similarly, Jamie Spears’ attorney, Alex Weingarten, told CNN that Jamie is pleased the matter is resolved and loves his daughter immensely, always striving for her best interests.
Britney’s conservatorship officially ended in November 2021, but legal disputes over fees and alleged mishandling persisted between her and her father’s lawyers. The conservatorship had placed her father in control of her finances and medical decisions since 2008.
In June 2021, Britney delivered powerful testimony in court, describing the conservatorship as abusive and pleading for its termination. Following this, she was granted the ability to choose her own legal representation and retained Mathew Rosengart.
In September 2021, Jamie Spears was suspended as Britney’s conservator, and the arrangement was ultimately terminated in November of the same year.
Since regaining her freedom, Britney has been active on social media, sharing dance videos and engaging with her fans. She has released new music and a memoir, where she detailed the oppressive nature of her conservatorship, describing it as stripping her of her womanhood and artistic identity.
