Tragedy struck in Marion County on Tuesday morning when a bus carrying over 50 migrant farm workers crashed, resulting in at least eight fatalities and numerous hospitalizations.
The incident occurred around 6:35 am local time on State Road 40, involving a retired school bus and a Ford Ranger truck traveling in opposite directions.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the vehicles sideswiped each other after the pickup truck veered towards the centerline for unknown reasons.
The impact caused the bus to veer off the road, break through a fence, strike a tree, and overturn, leaving it lying on its side in a field beside the highway.
