In 2023, the Miss Universe organization made headlines worldwide by announcing an expansion of its age-limit restrictions, offering more women the chance to participate.
Among those making waves is 59-year-old Elaine Allen-Landy, a certified health and wellness coach representing Jamaica in this year’s competition. Despite her unexpected entry, Elaine has embraced the experience with enthusiasm.
“It wasn’t planned at all!” Elaine revealed in an interview with Living. “My cousin suggested I enter after hearing about the age limit change. I thought she was crazy because I always saw Miss Universe as this glamorous, amazing thing.”
However, with encouragement from her family, Elaine decided to go for it. “I decided to just have fun, and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. Everyone has been so welcoming. I don’t know if it’s because of my age, but there’s been no cattiness or intimidation. The other contestants have been giving me tips, and we’ve been supporting each other. It’s been incredible,” she shared.
Adding to her joy is the support of her husband, Morace Landy, who not only sponsors her through their joint venture, Vybe Vault RNB, but is also her biggest cheerleader. “He’s been by my side every step of the way – my biggest supporter,” Elaine said. “It feels good knowing he’s backing me and wants our business to support me too.”
Morace echoed her sentiments: “I’m so proud watching her on stage. She’s a beautiful woman who takes excellent care of her body and mine through what we eat. She deserves all the praise she gets.”
He further emphasized the significance of the age-limit changes: “There are so many incredible, beautiful women of a certain age around the world who don’t get the credit they deserve. It’s one thing to be young and fit and beautiful, but another to stand the test of time and still be all of those things.”
Together, Elaine and Morace encourage others to follow their dreams. “Just go for it. Don’t listen to the naysayers,” Elaine urged. “We have a chance to rewrite our stories. We shouldn’t let age hold us back.” Morace added, “Let your wife have her moment and live her truth.”
In conclusion, the couple is thrilled Elaine took the leap, and they hope their story inspires others to do the same.
