Kevin Costner attended the press conference for “Horizon: An American Saga” at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival.
During the event, he opened up to *GQ* about funding the film, revealing that he invested $38 million of his own money, contrary to earlier reports of $20 million.
On Sunday, Costner, 69, walked the red carpet with five of his seven children and was moved by a 7-minute standing ovation for his film.
Reflecting on the project, he expressed a sense of urgency and a deep commitment, even mortgaging property to finance the film.
Costner also discussed the impact of the pandemic on his need to work, emphasizing the importance of setting an example of passion and dedication for his children.
Despite a challenging year, including a divorce from Christine Baumgartner and his departure from “Yellowstone,” Costner remains determined to complete his ambitious four-part film series.
“Horizon: An American Saga,” set during the American Civil War, explores the expansion of the West.
The first chapter will be released on June 28, followed by the second on August 16.
Costner shared a personal connection to the film, revealing that he named his character, Hayes Ellison, after his son Hayes, who also appears in the movie.
Costner praised his son’s performance, noting his significant impact on the film.
