The Lagos State Government plans to gradually install cameras on all regulated transport vehicles operating within the state.
Olukemi Amure, head of bus services at the state’s transport authority, announced this during a meeting with stakeholders aimed at improving transport services in Lagos.
This initiative is part of a two-year Transport Policy aimed at placing cameras at bus stops, interchanges, taxi ranks, freight yards, stations, and particularly on Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) vehicles.
The installation of these cameras is expected to support the proposed Traffic Control Centre (TCC), decrease incident response times, and improve overall traffic management efficiency.
Additionally, the new policy includes the establishment of the Lagos Transport Police (LTP) in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu highlighted in 2022 that imported BRT buses were equipped with short-circuit cameras, whereas locally supplied buses intended to enhance transport operations lacked built-in cameras.
