Telecommunications companies have denied that the recent suspension of certain subscriber lines is related to a national protest set to start on Thursday.
Recent days have seen a significant number of lines blocked, leading some to suspect that this move was an effort by the government to disrupt the upcoming demonstration.
However, the Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has clarified that there is no connection between the line suspensions and the planned protest.
According to ALTON’s statement from chairman Gbenga Adebayo and secretary Gbolahan Awonuga, the line blocks are related to the ongoing process of linking SIM cards with National Identification Numbers, which is set to conclude on July 31, 2024.
This process aims to synchronize the SIM registration database with the National Identity Database and enhance its accuracy.
Customers affected by the line blocks are advised to contact their service providers to address any discrepancies.
