In Nigeria, nationwide protests against economic hardship took a dramatic turn when demonstrators in Kano ignited a bonfire outside the Government House on Thursday morning.
What began as a peaceful assembly, drawing people from various parts of the city, became chaotic when some protesters set tyres ablaze.
Security forces responded by firing shots and tear gas, causing the crowd to scatter and resulting in injuries and confusion among the protesters.
Prior to the upheaval, the demonstrators had been waiting for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to address them.
