The incident took place in Dendo community, Agaie Local Government Area, around 12:30 am on Sunday.
According to Abdullahi Baba-Arab, the director-general of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), a petrol tanker collided head-on with a trailer carrying cattle. The explosion also involved a crane truck and a pickup van.
The explosion occurred on September 8, 2024, around 12:30 am on the Lapai-Agaie road, 2km from Dendo Community. The tanker, transporting PMS, crashed into a trailer truck carrying travelers and cattle from Wudil in Kano State to Lagos.
The incident resulted in the deaths of over 30 people and the burning of more than 50 cattle.
NSEMA’s Rapid Response Team, along with local emergency services, is still working at the scene to search for and rescue additional victims.
