Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, criticized the National Assembly’s decision to investigate a dispute between social media influencers, calling it unnecessary.
Ahmad expressed that the country faces more pressing national issues that need attention, rather than focusing on the altercation between crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, and Martins Ortse, or VeryDarkMan.
In a post on X, Ahmad stated, “Forming a National Assembly committee to investigate the VDM and Bobrisky saga is completely unnecessary. Nigeria is currently dealing with much bigger challenges, and this issue holds no real national significance.”
The controversy began when VeryDarkMan released an audio recording of Bobrisky alleging he had bribed officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with N15 million to drop money laundering charges. Bobrisky also claimed his ‘godfather’ helped him avoid serving a six-month prison sentence.
As a result, the House of Representatives conducted an investigative hearing. VeryDarkMan attended in person, while Bobrisky sent his lawyer.
Both the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) denied any wrongdoing during the session.
